Seeking a qualified and experienced Chef for a values based aged care organisation.


The Opportunity


Reporting to the Hospitality Coordinator and responsible for kitchen and catering employees, you will

  • Prepare and deliver quality food services to the consumers at LHI
  • Oversee compliance within the home’s kitchen including food safety, menu development, and food preparation and service.
  • Be responsible for maintaining food services in line with the accreditation requirements.
  • Work in conjunction with the Catering and Care Team in providing nutritionally balanced meals and special diets to LHI Consumers within the aged care facility, serviced apartments and community services.
  • Oversee the Food Services team, including roster monitoring, performance development and management and mentoring and training in consultation with the Hospitality Coordinator
  • Manage kitchen budgets, in consultation with the Hospitality Coordinator.
  • Develop external relationships with contractors and oversee quality of work conducted at the home- e.g. food deliveries.
  • Actively participate in the planning of RCH and Community functions which involve but are not limited to managing and overseeing human resources, menu development, physical environment and roll out of the event.

The position will be based at Glynde initially until the Hope Valley RCH main kitchen is capable to allow ‘cook fresh’.


About You


You are an experienced, qualified chef who has:

  • The ability to work as part of a team and able to assist in the ongoing personal and professional development of the team
  • Effective time management and problem solving skills
  • An understanding of the needs and requirements of aged care residents and clients
  • A self motivated and confident approach
  • Capability to be flexible in the time management of work schedules and procedures
  • The ability to respond to the needs of the department, residents and LHI
  • The ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively, and be receptive to and able to manage change
  • Passion and commitment to Aged Care
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills – written and verbal
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Proven ability to manage pressure, competing demands and conflict in the workplace

Previous experience in working with older people or in an aged care environment is highly desirable.

Lutheran Homes Inc. (now LHI Retirement Services) was founded in 1957 and they continue to grow today, striving to achieve aged care service excellence by valuing people. 


The village at Glynde consists of approximately 300 Independent Living Units, a Residential Care Facility, various community support facilities and a purpose-built church.  The Hope Valley site enjoys similar facilities to those at Glynde.  Across both sites, LHI cares for over 1,000 people.
